Samantha Bumgarner was Pete Seeger's inspiration for picking up a five-string banjo. Before he ever saw her play, she'd paved the way for generations of female musicians to take charge of their talent and their careers even when friends, families, and social forces tried to keep them in their homes playing music only for their families.
