Emma needs a cat. Sure, she takes care of a colony of twenty or more cats, but they don't let her pet them, and she needs one of her own.  So that's how she'll spend her summer, convincing a feral cat to come home with her.  Then, she'll have to convince her mom, but she's taking it one step at a time while trying avoid the old ladies who live down the lane, the woman who helps her take care of the cats, and the young researcher who just might ruin all her hopes since well-fed cats like to hunt the rare beach mice.
